About Us

Brief History
The Central Water and Sewerage Authority (CWSA) is a statutory corporation established in 1970, under the revised Central Water and Sewerage Authority Act of 1991.The authority operates as a semi-autonomous public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Health and the Environment (MHE). It has three main functions in St. Vincent and the Grenadines:

•  Water supply - treatment, transmission and distribution of potable water to domestic, commercial, shipping, and government customers
   

•  Sewerage - management and operation of the small old sewerage system that serves the central business district (CDB) of Kingstown and the Arnos Vale Housing Scheme
   

• Solid waste - CWSA assume responsibility for the Solid Waste Management Unit (SWMU) from April 1998. The solid waste system became fully operational in 2002.

CWSA has a Board of Directors that is responsible fro the policy, planning, supervision and general performance of the authority. The General Manager is Secretary to the Board and has prime responsibility for the day-to-day operations. There are six departments: Engineering; Accounts & Finance; Customer Care; Human Resources & Administration; Information Technology; and Solid Waste.

Growing to Meet the Needs
The CWSA is dedicated to provide timely and high quality service to its customers. We are committed to expand our service area to meet the needs of our growing population. The CWSA as it exists today has broadened its horizon to assume responsibility for the management of solid waste. Only the future will reveal the boundaries or infinite scope of the Central Water & Sewerage Authority.
